*Acceptance tells you my personal preferences for each messenger medium
1Privacy concerns. This messenger protocol will log and/or analyze connections or conversations or at least allows this in it's TOS!
2Heavy privacy concerns. This messenger protocol allows infringees your intellectual property if shared or discussed via their services!
3Dependency concerns. This protocol forces you to use a specific proprietary server without any free alternatives or backups of your contacts.
4General concerns. This is a proprietary protocol. Security and privacy issues arise due to the non-transparent nature of this protocol.
5Security concerns. Missing or low encryption or proprietary nature of eventually existing encrytion.
6Interoptability concerns. Use of third party clients is forbidden for this protocoll and by it's TOS.

As you can see, there are a lot of issues with common proprietary messenger services. I strongly recommend the usage of XMPP / Jabber. It's easy to create an account and you should do so and convince your contacts of doing the same. As a matter of fact it's even easy to run your very own server (like I'm doing with dottedfish@dottedfish.com).
